Laughter is the best medicine. Talking is the best therapy...

You heard it here first: “Laughter is the best medicine and talking is the best therapy”. Whichever way around you order this phrase, the message is still the same. When it comes to mental health and wellbeing, we live in a world where conversations are now happening all around us – between family and friends, in the workplace, perhaps even with a stranger in the street. The pendulum has swung from a time when it may have been hushed up and swept under the carpet. Now we better understand the importance and benefit of talking to others and having the right conversations to help make a more positive change. For me, what goes hand in hand with this is connecting and laughing and I shared in an earlier post the importance of this – ‘Laughter really IS the best medicine’. This funny image brings exactly that to me – Laughter. Humour. A sense of silliness and gentle gesting. Everytime.

We are exposed to this type of ‘meme media’ on a frequent basis and some are just hilarious! It’s a lovely way to share and feel connected. It can also be a helpful way to understand the difficulty someone may be experiencing in their life. I feel blessed to live in a time now where this is available to us. As a person who has experienced depression from a young age, I know first hand the importance of being able to have the opportunity to share your struggles but also to be able to laugh and have your spirits lifted. Talking therapy can be a great outlet for this and recognising when seeking professional help is needed is important and invaluable; a safe space to speak your truth, talking constructively and with purpose. Get talking today and don’t be afraid to share what’s on your mind. I always say honesty is the best policy…
