This passion pitch is written with the most heartfelt kindness… As someone who has experienced challenges with their own mental health, I know first hand the power and ability the brain has. But on balance, all is not without hope and change. With that in mind, step into the world of positivity with me and learn about the power of choice and words… So what is PMA? Positive Mental Attitude. This affects our responses and reactions as well as our outlook on life. It is by no means an attempt to eradicate the difficulties, more to balance them and offer yourself a different perspective and choice. Reflecting on what brings you joy in your life, what is going well for you and what you have achieved can all help to nurture this because they are feel good factors. PMA has the ability to work well when there aren’t factors such as fear, low self esteem and emotional pain being experienced. When noticed, these can be focused on as an area to first heal and deal with before stepping forwards. Affirmations are also a powerful technique that can be used in self-development to help switch up our thinking and direct us on to a better path for where we want to go. It is a powerful and positive statement that you repeatedly practice by communciating it to yourself verbally, by writing it down or reading it out loud. By doing this, you help develop compassionate self talk which can really help impact our behaviour. When it comes to affirmations, there are 3 important things to remember: Personal, Present and Positive. Start off with ‘I’ or ‘My’, this is the part that attributes it to you and gives you ownership. Next is stating it in the present tense as if you already possess the quality or attribute you desire: ‘am’ or ‘have’ rather than ‘will’. Lastly, bring in that positivity piece – what is it that you want? You must believe it is possible, realistic and within your control to achieve.
“You’ve Got This!”
Be mindful that both of these practice takes consistency and time. I’ve now developed this approach to help bring into my life the kind of day I would like to have and whilst this is future focused, it helps focus my attention and thinking to support what I need.
