Morning Motivation

There is no doubt about it. We’ve all been there. We’ve all had those days where getting out of bed is the last thing we want to do or sitting on the sofa feels like the preferred option… and that is ok. If that is where your mind and body is at, then ‘you do you‘. Equally, if you feel it’s not what you want for yourself, remember, you have a choice. Today was exactly that for me… Dr. Julie Smith has a great video about this which features on her website. She shares four simple steps we can take to help motivate ourselves in the morning – Move our bodies, listen to music, be compassionate towards someone else and practice gratitude. Have a watch here – it might just be one of the best things you do for yourself today! So if you find yourself waking up one day and want to get out of bed but just aren’t feeling it, try simple step number one – Move. That’s all it takes. Starting with physically getting your body up and into action. Step by step you can build momentum. Practicing these daily ‘health habits’ and introducing them into our routine can really do wonders for our wellbeing. Marie Kondo is another person who I find inspiring and just love. She shares in her practice her ideas for morning routine which includes letting in fresh air to your home, sipping what sparks joy (a win for all you coffee lovers out there!) and making a ‘to do’ list of your intentions for the day. Today, despite the cold temperatues and beautiful snow sitting on the ground outside, I opened windows and allowed the lovely crisp air to move through my home. I also took the time to enjoy my morning brew and feed the birds (granted, I’m on a day off from work and had more time than usual in my morning but the purpose was the same!) – morning routine and daily practice can do alot to help change our mood and mindset for the day. Perhaps there is the possibility of change or a little more room in your morning routine for one of these wellbeing practice ideas… Consider what’s on your ‘uplifting’ playlist? And who may you show an act of kindness towards today?
